‘…brevity is the soul of wit.’
It’s part of a Shakespeare line, though you could be forgiven for thinking it was the start of something interestingly nasty Oscar Wilde had to say.
Brevity is also key to clarity. You rarely need as many words as you think.
Next time you write, strip it back until it’s abrupt. Old-fashioned pay-per-character telegram abrupt. Then flesh it back out. I guarantee you’ll say it better with less.
